Leather Chesterfield Sofa

As we explain on our all about leather page, “Leather and wood are the only materials that get better and more luxurious with age.” Not only are they durable, they also age well with fashion, and if you’re looking for a vintage or retro style seating, a Leather Chesterfield Sofa or armchair is the best way to go.

We have chosen a selection of products below, which we believe will accentuate the design of any luxury vintage or retro style seating area, showing off the class and elegance of the room.

Brown Leather Chesterfield Sofa

With classical curves, large sumptuous cushions and elegant hand carved legs, the Brown Shakespeare leather Chesterfield sofa is grand, at 2.5 metres for a 3 seater and 2.8 metres for a 4 seater. Black Leather Chesterfield Sofa

The Benton leather Chesterfield sofa in black is a choice of luxurious softly quilted style and beautiful leather.  Just sink in and relax into this comfortable addition to your living area.

Happy Valentine’s Day Ladies! George Clooney on a chesterfield chaise sofa

It might not be surprising that a recent poll revealed that George Clooney was the winner in a U.K. poll asking people who would make the best Valentine’s Day date.

But things take a turn when you learn that the organization asking the question was Madame Tussauds. Yep — the “choose your dream date” question came straight from the wax museum people. The winner was George Clooney, so they stuck him out in the street, sitting on a sofa, so people could snuggle up to him.

And snuggle up they did. They caressed. They cajoled. They grinned and sighed. They allowed people with cameras to take their pictures.

Happy Valentine’s Day, ladies! Enjoy your moment with Wax George Clooney as he stares unnervingly at nothing, ignoring your efforts to kiss and charm him. Wax George Clooney will certainly look good in your later photos, but he probably won’t put the moves on you, so you need to be prepared to be assertive.

The upside of all this is that he’s really no more indifferent than Real George Clooney who, if you’re anything like me, still hasn’t called. Granted, Wax George Clooney is less likely to playfully engage in practical joke wars with Matt Damon and Brad Pitt, and it’s possible that some of the charm of any charismatic man is lost when he never blinks and instead appears to be an undead creature awaiting Dr. Frankenstein’s powers of reanimation, but you must admit, he looks pretty good.

But no WGC is as wonderful as the WGC whose picture was taken in London last November (London seems to have several Wax George Clooneys on call). For whatever reason, Madame Tussauds decided that the best way to mark four Thanksgivings in office for President Barack Obama was to place Obama in a Thanksgiving dinner scene with Wax George Clooney, Wax Morgan Freeman, and Wax Rihanna. (Wax Morgan Freeman: “Take the picture. This wax turkey isn’t going to eat itself.”)

Living Room Inspiration, Too Good to Pass Up

Now that we have the star of the show, I have enjoyed playing around with a mood board for inspiration for the living room that works around our new chesterfield sofa.

These mood boards are just that – inspiration. Besides the sofa and a couple of kudo horns from here in South Africa, we don’t own anything else shown on the board. So don’t be surprised if the final result isn’t an exact match.

You may have noticed that I am drawn towards decorating with blues, greens, and grays – and somehow a Michelle Armas painting seems to find it’s way in to every mood board so far. Seriously, that woman is talented! I thought this painting was a great choice for color inspiration but, sadly, it looks like it is no longer available.

Half of the living room with be torn down in the midst of our renovation but we do plan to update the fireplace and built-ins with a few DIY projects. Our list includes:

To – Do:
Scrape popcorn ceilings
Install new hardwood flooring
Paint (or stain) brick fireplace (more on this later!)
Build wooden shelves for built-ins and remove glass front doors.
Repaint walls, ceiling, built-ins, trim and doors
Replace ceiling fan
Replace mantel
Bring in art, curtains, etc.

I love the way this room is heading but I’m a little stumped on what to do with our tall brick fireplace. I’m getting my thoughts together and will be asking for your advice soon!

Too Good to Pass Up

Y’all! We bought a sofa this weekend! Sight unseen, never sat on, clear across the world but we I just fell in love over a computer screen!

chesterfield sofa

I wasn’t even considering a sofa like this for our living room. I have always loved chesterfields (even more after admiring my friend, Jenn’s, new addition!) but never thought I could afford one or be lucky enough to run across one. But this past week, I found a Craigslist ad for this sexy, tufted, extra large, sofa that has now changed all of my plans! It’s in brand new condition, rarely used, and (in my opinion) will only get better with age!

I know finding a great deal on Craigslist is nothing new, but Texarkana’s Craigslist NEVER has anything good! So when I saw this Pottery Barn Grand Chesterfield Sofa pop up for almost half price, I had to act quick!! Our lovely Aunt Nancy went to scope it out, did all the negotiating for us and he’ll even be waiting for us in our living room when we get home (thanks again, Nancy)! I’m so in love and can’t wait to see this piece in person! Here is some inspiration photos of some sexy chesterfields strutting their stuff!

My brain is filled with ideas for our living room mood board that now includes this sofa! Check back soon to see how he fits in!
Tell me about your Craigslist surprises!  Anyone have a chesterfield they love? Or bought a couch before without seeing or sitting on it?

Great Tips on Ordering a Chesterfield Sofa

There is nothing like a Chesterfield sofa when it comes to adding style and elegance to your home. It’s a traditional, classic design. It can be an eye-catching piece of furniture in your room or it can simply blend in with the rest of your furnishings. For most homes, though, leather Chesterfield sofas are the highlight of the room. These are stunning pieces of furniture with excellent craftsmanship and design.

When choosing between the many styles of leather Chesterfield sofas, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, there is a tremendous selection of leather available for these sofas. You aren’t just limited to browns and blacks. Leather Chesterfield sofas can be found in virtually every shade in the rainbow. In addition, you may want to consider a leather patchwork sofa. These are becoming very popular nowadays and can really add something special to your home.

Second, you will have to wait about a month and a half to get your leather Chesterfield sofa. However, this is certainly a process you don’t want to rush. The workmanship that goes into bespoke furniture is truly amazing, but it does take some time. There are some shops that can finish your sofa faster if you so desire, but sometimes, it’s better just to wait. Keep this time frame in mind when you place your order.

The size of the leather Chesterfield sofa is also something you should consider. The most popular sizes are two and three seaters; however, when you have your sofa custom made, the sky is really the limit. In terms of pricing, you will find that these types of sofas are about the same as high quality leather sofas that you would find in your neighbourhood furniture store. The best thing is that you won’t be seeing your sofa in someone else’s home. It’s your unique personality and inspiration that goes into your new leather Chesterfield sofa.

Finally, if you are having problems deciding exactly what you want your new leather Chesterfield sofa to look like, you can talk with the designers at the bespoke Chesterfield Lounge shop. They will be able to answer all of your questions and give you some guidance, if you need it. Don’t be afraid to use their experience and knowledge. They want their customers satisfied so they will tell others about the gorgeous leather Chesterfield sofas they created! There’s no better marketing than a recommendation from a previous customer!

Investing in Furniture – chesterfield sofa

2013 sees a return to classic and traditional items of furniture. The fashion for plastics, P.V.Cs and modern materials has been phasing out and the interior design industry has seen a wonderful return to natural fabrics and solid materials. In kitchens and bathrooms, steel and slate are favoured over tile, ceramic and plastics.

In living areas we are seeing pieces of furniture made of solid woods such as oak, beech and pine taking precedence over flat-packed creations and plastic or contemporary designs.

In sofas we are witnessing a demise in fake leather or faux materials and instead the fashion is for real leather in solid traditional designs or fabrics such as linen, suede, brushed cotton or even velvet.

This is more of a lifestyle choice than a passing phase. People are starting to invest once again in their homes, viewing interior design and furniture as sound investments rather than fashionable accessorising, choosing pieces that will last, family heirlooms and items of value that will resist the passing times instead of cheap IKEA style passing fads.

This craze for traditional furniture has seen the comeback of some of my favourite pieces;

The dresser- in solid wood, this wonderfully homely piece of furniture sits beautifully in a kitchen, living room or open-plan living area for crockery, allowing kitchenware to be displayed rather than concealed behind cupboards.

The trunk- imposing in wood with leather straps and embellishments; once a utilitarian piece of luggage, as standard as our hold-alls or suitcases, the trunk is an elegant box that can be used for any number of uses including an elegant and stylish toy box.

The Chesterfield sofa– never before has this traditional piece seen such wide acknowledgment and appreciation for its versatility, style and effortless elegance. Whether in the ever-popular leather covering or in softer materials and fabrics, its appeal is worldwide and its popularity as the sofa of choice in formal states rooms or in luxurious A-listers apartments is growing.
There is something about how it stands on its solid wooden legs with curling arms that exudes confidence and class and it is an investment with making.

Merry Christmas – chesterfield armchair

merry xmas
chesterfield armchair and footstool in brown leather

Log fire burning, Christmas tree sparkling, presents stacked, the smell of warm cooking in the air and a glass of port in hand… Where better to be than sitting in a rich soft leather Chesterfield armchair, soaking up the Christmas songs and warming your feet by the fire. There is nowhere more warm and comfortable to be this Christmas Eve, I bet Father Christmas is jealous!

A Chesterfield for every room

From boho to minimal, contemporary to traditional. These rooms have nothing in common and are as varied as can be in style and design but the one thing that they have in common is that each of them has a Chesterfield sofa as the main piece of furniture of that room.

Whether carpeted, or under a rug or on bare floorboards, these sofas sit on their legs like royalty, no matter the style or period of their surrounding.

Not all the same colour; we have black leather, brown leather, tan and green leather Chesterfield sofas in all in varying conditions; some in worn, battered leather giving it a used appearance, whilst others are hand painted and covered in gloss to give them that high shine sheen. Then we have those which aren’t leather; linen and velvet material for a softer look. In each room, the Chesterfield sofa lends itself to the feel of that room and marries itself beautifully to its surroundings, preferring to integrate as a classic and elegant embellishment to the room rather than standing out and taking centre stage.

Beachfront Penthouse

The latest project that we have undertaken is a frontline beach penthouse in Marbella, Spain. Although not a vast property, it has been built with large proportions and its wide corridors, open plan layout, large windows and high ceilings give it a feeling of light and space.

We have decided to keep this airy feel by using a very neutral colour pallet and minimal decor, selecting only the finest pieces to compliment the rooms and allowing the space and the fabulous sea views to take centre stage.

We kept marble floors throughout the apartment and used rugs from vintage and antique markets in the bedrooms and one zebra skin in the living room. This animal feel gave a slight colonial theme to the room which we complimented with an old antique colonial coffee table and we sat it between two hand dyed leather Chesterfield sofas. We chose a worn leather to give the room that extra character, and the brown leather sofas complimented perfectly the antique pieces which we offset with lanterns and soft lighting.

In the corridor we chose a chesterfield chaise longue, again in worn brown leather and it is positioned Underneath a large wrought iron hung lantern.

In the study we chose a large antique mahogany desk, with all its original features and a traditional desk light in pride of precedence. Complementing that room we had commissioned two Delightful mahogany Chesterfield tub chairs, which we had made in a tan leather and were made to our specific requirements. For our desk chair we also commissioned a swivel Chesterfield chair, once again in mahogany and tan leather. The final result was slick and elegant but not without character.

All the Chesterfield furniture was from Chesterfield Lounge, our favourite supplier of genuine Chesterfield furniture.
